Hi my name is Annie Slater – I was born in Hobart Tasmania on January 5th 1963 – I am the 2nd of 3 children, older brother and younger sister.  Hobart was an interesting place to grow up – it is cold most of the year and as I didn’t know any different I made the most of it.  I was always an outdoors child – loved playing outside, swimming – it was a short walk to the beach (in fact I used to walk along the beach to school) and being involved in sports, netball was my favourite.
I always did well at school, english and maths were my strong subjects and I am still grateful to this day that I learned typing – who knew how handy it would be in my adult world.
When I was 17 I moved to the mainland of Australia – I was always fascinated to find out more about our country, so I set off for Cairns in the North of Australia.  It was a real eye opener for the girl from Hobart, I didn’t know there were crocodiles in Australia, I had never seen a cockroach and well the weather was amazing.  It was a complete contrast to the icy conditions of home and it was then I fell in love with hot weather.
I spent about 3 years in Queensland, got a little homesick, headed back to Hobart for a short while and then headed west to Perth, Western Australia.  It was in Perth that I learned about the well paying jobs in the mining / resources industry and I persisted & persisted and finally landed a 3 month job onsite at a gold mine in Marvel Loch.  So begins my long career in mining, construction and engineering, which has seen me travel to most parts of the country for work.  A lot of times the situation meant that I would pack up my belongings and store them while I worked onsite in remote locations.  I quickly found myself rising through the ranks and earning 6 figure income, lead or managerial roles followed, but as the years went on I felt lost and wanted to put my roots down and “have a life”.
On April 7 2008 I woke up about 2 hours after going to sleep and I realised I was living life as if my cup was half empty, the feeling was almost like I was treading water in what I felt was my lot in life, like I was just biding my time waiting for the years to pass and then what – I could not see any way out of my rut, I felt stuck and I felt trapped. I didn’t like my job anymore.  The only thing that would get me out of bed in the morning was going to the gym – which I love. I thought “what will make me happy… really happy” and my intuition spoke up with “a trip to the United States”. Within 3 days I had booked my trip and things slowly started to change for me. I had a new found passion for life and ideas started to present themselves.
I started to explore options on the internet and understand the power of this platform.  I wanted to know what businesses were available out there that I could run – knowing my background and taking into account what my dreams are.  My entrepreneurial spirit was waking up.
At the beginning of December 2008 I had a safety net – a day job for 45 hours a fortnight that paid me extremely well (as far as day jobs are concerned). By mid December my employer had lost the new project I was working on ($150M coal preparation plant upgrade) and I was informed my contract would cease 1 week prior to Christmas. I was overwhelmed by a sense of excitement and exhilaration which was quickly followed by fear of the unknown! Since that time I have been offered an overseas posting which came with a 6 figure income; another opportunity in Australia (again 6 figures) which would have taken me away from home 10 days a fortnight – I backed myself and said NO!
Now I work full-time from home on several business ventures, including my internet business.  I haven’t looked back!  I love life and am in the biggest learning curve I have been in for many years – I am fascinated with life and have big plans for my future.  I love to travel and I love spring / summer weather so one of my goals for the next 12 months is to travel & live overseas for 4 to 5 months next Australian winter.  I can work from anywhere in the world on my businesses as long as I have my computer & phone.
So there you have it – a brief insight into my world!
